Lon Gi Elder Pranjal comes looking for Uncia, the snow leopardess savior of a cub!
---
Pranjal pads softly through the tangles of the jungle, her feet familiar enough with it to find the way without much thought. That's good, because her thoughts are busy. She got the story from Mitra, but there were so many details left out. There always are; no story matches the truth in all regards. That's why she's coming to look for that snow leopardess herself. Somewhere around here, she thinks it was?
The snow leopardess had never seen an ocean before, so here she rests staring out into the salt water mangrove. She had never seen anything like this before. A swamp in the ocean!!! This would be something to tell the other snow leopards back home for sure up north, where there is no sea. She is thinking about what happened awhile back, about how she came to the aid of the Long Gi. How she saved a family from the heartache and sorrow that would have been present of losing children. Could she possibly be considered a hero to them? She didn't feel like a hero, she was just doing her duty, after all wouldn't anyone try their best to save drowning cubs??? o.o
Pranjal arches herself up as she passes underneath an arched root, letting it stroke the fur of her back and leaving tufts of her loose fur behind. Ahh, that feels better. She pauses, then, one paw still in the air, as she catches a glimpse of white through a gap in the brush. A snow leopard, yes. Nothing else has rosettes quite like that. Seems she found what she was looking for. She considers a moment, then turns herself to take a slightly different path down, approaching from the side - openly. If this leopardess is as advertised, she should be in no danger. And if not, well... Lon Gi will learn a lesson.
The snowie leopardess turns as she hears someone approaching. She flicks her tail and rises to her haunches. "Who is there?" She calls out, hoping its no one she should be afraid of. She glances around trying to spot the approaching creature. Luckily for her she's pretty much at the top of the food chain!!!
If Pranjal was a tiger, she might be a threat. As it is, she's just an old clouded leopardess, padding down the slope and into view. She chuckles softly, and calls back, "A friendly visitor, girl. Just a moment, and we won't have to shout." And, with that, she finishes coming down to the edge of the open patch where Uncia has been sitting and watching the sea.
Uncia smiles. "A good day to you then...visitor. Bet you haven't seen a snow leopardess by the ocean...I heard stories from other animals and birds who travel south for the winter, but this is quite an amazing sight." She says. "I'd tell you who I was but you probably know who I am already." "Seems like everyone I come across these days has heard the story." "News spreads fast around these parts." She flicks her tail and begins to lick her paws, cleaning herself a bit as she waits for the visitor to respond.
Pranjal chuckles again. "Nor a crocodile by the mountains. You've come far." She settles into a sitting position, looking up at the larger feline without seeming at all nonplussed by the disparity. "Heard? Yes, I've heard young Kavin's family has quite a reason to be grateful to you. Perhaps he'll learn something from the experience, as well." She pauses, and chuckles at memories. "But hearing is hardly the same as seeing. So I came to see for myself. I am Pranjal."
The snow leopardess beams. "Well thank you Pranjal...for coming all this way just to thank me. I never needed any thanks though, I was only doing my duty. Anyone would have done the same , right? Though it was quite scary for me nearly losing my life along with the child, I can only imagine what it was like for young Kavin----I just hope he'll be more careful next time and they won't try to cross swollen rivers until the water goes down..."You probably already know my name, Uncia." She says --"A pleasure." She grins. "This is the first time I've ever laid eyes on the sea." She remarks..."I had to see it so I could tell the others."
Yes, Pranjal wanted to see for herself - but there's another reason she's come all this way. As one of the elders of the Lon Gi, she's here to investigate not just on behalf of herself - but for Kavin's extended family, their entire clouded leopard people. That doesn't mean she has any intention of being direct about it, though. "Have you seen any of the dolphins yet? Wonderful creatures. Such aerobatics." She smirks, and adds, "Nicely hung, too, and they don't mind showing it off."
Uncia chuckles. "Yes in fact, I saw some doing flips and such, the other day around sunset. Interesting creatures they are." The snowie chuckles at the last comment, and flicks her tail. "I doubt you would have come all this way just to thank me, there's another reason you've come, is there not?" She wonders what it could be. Why the Long Gi would have such interest in her, just for doing something any normal fur would do when a young one was in distress, any normal sane creature anyway---she couldn't fathom any creature happening upon a young child in trouble, and not offering a paw.
Pranjal chuckles. "Hah. Can't very well just let it slide, now can I?" she retorts. "I've lost enough cubs of my own. Better Vedha doesn't learn that lesson anytime soon." She pauses then, for a few moments. "So I want to thank you. And when it comes down to it, so do all of us. Any mother will risk her life for her cub, but Kavin's no kin to you. We'd ask you to come visit us, so all us of his kin can thank you." Why, no, she's not going to tell Uncia exactly what's planned! Then she'd miss the look of dawning astonishment, and that's just fun.
Uncia grins..."You mean like a celebration, just for me? That sounds, fantastic...so uhm...where do you live?" She asks. I doubt cloudies live near the sea, so I assume we'll have to do some travelling to get to your territory? Hopefully we wont have to cross any swollen rivers...I've had enough of rivers lately." She chuckles. "That water is so cold, it makes my teeth chatter just thinking about it." She beams again. "Perhaps you should lead the way, with my tracking skills, I'd probably get us lost, and well with all thats been going on lately, we probably wouldn't want to end up lost in the forest."
Oh, yes, that's pretty much it. Of course, Pranjal may have left out the details of the ceremony, and just what exactly this celebration is for - not just the rescue, but the bonds of friendship it will establish - but Uncia can find all that out when they get there. "Ah, it's not so far, if you know the right ways." At least, if you're as agile on your feet as a clouded leopard is - even an elderly one. "Come along, then, I'll show you how. And perhaps along the way, you can tell me just how a snow leopard came to be so very far from the mountains." She turns towards the jungle, with a glance back over her shoulder to make sure Uncia is following.
